PSA Prostate Self-Test Box 1 Test Kit from Prima Lab is an immunochromatographic test, which detects PSA thanks to gold-conjugated monoclonal antibodies, incorporated into the test strip. Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by the epithelial cells of the prostate gland. Its function is to fluidize the ejaculate and increase sperm mobility. PSA also plays a role in dissolving cervical mucus, allowing semen to enter the uterus.
Small amounts of PSA are normally found in the blood of men with a healthy prostate. Prostate pathologies (such as prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, cancer) lead to an increase in PSA levels in the blood. PSA levels also increase naturally with age, after prostate surgery or after specific diagnostic tests (rectal exam, prostate biopsy, prostate ultrasound, etc.)
